Lately, work has been really busy and stressful and so after work, I’m just completely drained. For many working moms like myself, the work doesn’t end after the shift ends. We have dinner to prepare, laundry to wash, kids to tend to and houses to clean. But on the days when I’m just DONE and have no energy to do anything else after work, I do these 5 things that don’t require you to spend too much money or to go out. Here are my 5 cheap and easy ways to wind down at home after a hard day at work.
1. Give yourself an exfoliating facial in the shower
Oh, how I love long hot showers. You have your privacy. The hot water is just so nice and relaxing and somehow, having a bath or a shower just makes you feel good. I like to exfoliate my face while I’m taking my shower. I bought this exfoliating rotating brush which I purchased from a Mary Kay representative. It was cheaper than similar ones you could purchase at Shopper Drug Mart or Sephora. According to an associate I met at Sephora, she told me that it’s important to exfoliate at least once a week. So once a week, when I want my face to feel soft and smooth, I apply a Body Shop exfoliating scrub to my brush and let the brush do all the work on my face. At the end of my shower, my face feels silky smooth.
2. Give yourself a relaxing foot scrub right before bed
There’s just something about clean feet that makes me feel so relaxed. Some nights, I can’t go to sleep without first washing my feet. I don’t like sleeping with socks on so I love the feeling of clean feet on silky smooth bedsheets. Call me weird but this is the truth! I just scrub my feet with a hot cloth or with an exfoliating brush in the tub. After cleaning my feet I apply a super hydrating body butter. My fav is Fuji Green Tea from Body Shop. The luxurious scent makes you feel like you are at the spa. Say goodbye to all the cracks and dry skin on your feet!
3. Watch your favourite comedy on Netflix
For me, I love watching Adam Sandler movies. They always crack me up! The one movie that I tend to watch over and over again is “Just Go With It” with Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston. My favourite scene is when Eddie talks about how he’s a “Sheep Shipper”. OMG! It’s hilarious! Click here if you want to watch the scene on You Tube.
My second favourite comedy is “White Chicks”. Yes, I’m a little bit embarrassed to admit it, but it’s just so funny! My favourite scene is when Terry Crews sings the song “A Thousand Miles” by Vanessa Carlton. That song will never be the same because of that movie! LOL! Click here if you want to see the clip. 4. Watch your favourite stand-up comedian on Netflix
If you really want to laugh your a** off, you gotta watch this guy. His name is Gabriel Iglesias. You can watch his full shows on Netflix. His shows have really saved me after work. As a busy mom of three little ones, I rarely have a chance to just sit on the couch and watch a show and so when I get to, its such treat for me. I get to kick my feet up and cozy up on the couch with a comfy blanket and sip a nice hot beverage. After having a good laugh, you just feel so much better!
5. Listen to your favourite tunes on your phone connected to a Bluetooth speaker while you clean up in the kitchen
Why didn’t they make these Bluetooth speakers sooner! They are so awesome. Mine is small, light and waterproof. You could swim with it in the pool or in the tub. The sound quality is decent and so you can listen to your favourite jams anywhere! Lately, I’ve been blasting Bruno Mars “24K Magic” and “Versace On The Floor”. My baby loves Bruno Mars, so she’s always hogging my phone! Arrrgg! Anyway, put on your favourite tunes when you clean up. It can make things more pleasant and makes you feel like you’re getting your chores done faster.
