Last night, I did what I don’t normally do. I went to sleep EARLY! I hit the sack at about 8:00pm. Hey, that’s super early right? Especially for us moms! Usually I go to bed after midnight. That’s when I finally get my ME time. The time where I get to hear my own thoughts in my head. When all the kids are awake, it’s like I’m constantly doing what they ask me. One day they’re gunna have to get it themselves, but until then it’s, “Mom, can I have some apple juice!” “Mom, can you cut me some strawberries?” “Mom, I’m done! (after going no. 2 in the washroom)”. “Mom, can you get my blanket downstairs!” It’s just constant! I just need to remind myself, that one day, they won’t be needing us. One day, they will be out hanging out with their friends or boyfriend (The thought scares me, but it’s inevitable). One, day they will be independent.
The reason why I usually stay up so late is because, I’m cleaning up the house. I’m cleaning up the kitchen, making sure all the dishes are put away or put into the dishwasher. I’m doing laundry. Usually, I do at least 1-2 loads of laundry a day so that the hampers don’t over flow and I’m not overwhelmed with it on the weekends. Or I’m tidying up the living room, putting away toys etc or mopping up the floor, or taking out the garbage. I always find something that needs doing.
After reading a post by a fellow mom blogger, she reminded me that the do list never ends! It’s so true. There will always be dishes to clean, laundry to wash, toys to tidy up, and errands to do. Your “to-do” list is never gunna go anywhere. It just repeats itself the next day. So why try to fight with it ALL the time. Sometimes, we need to give ourselves a BREAK! (at least I do, that’s for sure!)
So last night, I did what usually bugs the hell out of me. I left the sink full of dishes. I let the garbage overflow. I left the laundry in the baskets. I basically left the house in a huge mess (I’m sure it wasn’t that bad, but to me it was) and we all went to SLEEP. It was MAGICAL and I encourage all moms to get this magical more than 10 hours of sleep a night! It makes a huge difference! You wake up feeling refreshed. (I’m still sick from the stomach flu so I’m still feeling a bit weak). But otherwise, the sleep was AMAZING. You have more energy, you’re in a better mood, and you just feel RESTED! It’s a feeling that I don’t experience often so, you forget what it feels like. Us moms are just so used to getting up early, doing all the house chores, going to work, coming home and preparing the dinner and then doing it all over again the next day.
Sometimes, we gotta just forget about all the house work. It’s not gunna go anywhere. It will be waiting for us the next day. Just hit the sack and get those much needed ZZZs. Your body, sanity and family will love you for it!
How else do I achieve this magical sleep? I sleep on Pacific Coast pillows! One time when we were at a Hilton hotel, I removed the pillow case from one of their pillows and took a peek at the tag to find out what kind of pillows they use. The tag said, Pacific Coast. That year we were moving into our first home. I told my husband, I want our new bed to be super comfy so we ordered four king sized Pacific Coast Pillows. 6 years later (and three children later), we are still using these pillows and they feel exactly the same as when we first bought them. These pillows were more expensive than your average department store pillow but so worth it! You can fluff them up when they get flat and your neck never hurts. It’s great if you sleep on your side or sleep on your back or stomach. It doesn’t matter what kind of sleeper you are! It’s the perfect pillow for that perfect night sleep that you so desire! Come on moms, you deserve it!
It can be a gift for yourself, your spouse, a friend or family member! Perfect Christmas gift!
